untitled. for now.

A place for things that interest me. So basically a collection of stuff on politics, news, human rights, some photos and random stuff I find interesting or amusing. Oh yeah, and Arsenal stuff. Gooner til the day I die.

"Tom Friedman has been quiet about his desire to see Michael Bloomberg run for president of late, but the sight of some poorly maintained infrastructure in and around Union Station helped persuade him that we need Michael Bloomberg to run for president. As it happens, I have also been disappointed with some aspects of the Acela trip to New York, though I came away from the experience convinced that Buddy Roehmer is the man to save America."

Who would have guessed that the most Democratic drink by a long shot is Cognac, or that such lite beers as Amstel Lite, Michelob Ultra, Miller Lite and Sam Adams Light tilt so far to the political right, while Bud, Miller High Life, and Natural Lite are Democratic?

I have to say, I’m a bit surprised to see bourbon so far over there on the right …

Guinness is pretty even with both sides of the aisle. no wonder I like it.

"OK, first, let’s say yes, good, yay, bravo for feeding 70,000 people. That’s an unqualified Good Thing for this 20,000-member church to be doing. If every median-sized American church did the same thing on the same scale, each would feed 262.5 unemployed people a year and if every American congregation did this, then the unemployed could all be guaranteed 6.28 solid meals a year! So, again, kudos for that."

Philosopher’s Minimalism by Genís Carreras

Prints available at society6. Entitled “Philographics”, these minimalist geometric shapes represent various philosophical doctrines like existentialism, empiricism, nihilism, and solipsism. Several more can be seen on Carreras’ website, but spoiler alert: there appears to be no mention of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, which is just as much a code of ethics as it is a religious experience.

"Twitter coming downtown is exactly the kind of innovative company Detroit needs to advance our vision of becoming one of the most exciting high-tech and web-centered corridors of growth and activity found anywhere."

Reblogged from shortformblog

Dan Gilbert talks up Detroit’s high-tech future in “What Twitter Means for Detroit.” I’m posting this from Detroit, where I’ve been visiting family for a few days … and, while none of them have Twitter accounts, I can tell you that they’re all hoping Gilbert is right. HT: Michael Tofias. (via kohenari)

Seriously, if Twitter encourages any other tech companies to join them in Detroit, that’ll be huge for the city. Fact of matter: The auto industry is exactly the right industry to use as a base for this kind of growth, but if these companies are smart, they’ll use it as a trojan horse of sorts, a way to encourage economic rebirth in a city that could make it happen. (via shortformblog)

I know that I’m a little out-of-touch, but isn’t an Instagram really just a not-as-good-quality photo of the same shit people usually take photos of? It’s like the photographic equivalent of buying those pre-distressed t-shirts, right?

One of these days, I’m going to figure out how to tap into this country’s growing need for finding a way to do normal things lazier and shittier than we used to.  Let’s continue to strive for a slightly below-average America!

"He wants to figure out, when he comes over to your house, he wants to figure out, ‘Well, your boiler’s not working. How are we going to fix the boiler?’ and ‘Have you noticed that some of your trees are dying out there? Why are your trees dying? What’s causing that? Can we figure that out, and can we go down to the hardware store and see if they’ve got something to fix that?’ And all of a sudden you see him driving a tractor in your backyard, and he’s pulling stuff up. He’s like, ‘Oh, these rocks were doing that.’ I mean, that’s just who he is."

Google Maps unveiled their April Fool’s Joke a day early this year, and it’s worth a look — welcome to Dragon Warrior, USA! You can now view the world in stunning, lush, low-res 8-bit graphics. This is quite the home run gag, we must say.

This. is. brilliant! Well played Google, well played.
